NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Isaiah Overson, 16, has won the statewide Drive Safe California PSA Contest by submitting a script for a 30-second TV public service announcement that warns of the dangers of speeding, which is a factor in 26 percent of all fatal traffic crashes, killing more than 9,000 people every year.

The Watsonville, CA teen, who is home-schooled, wins a $2,000 prize from The National Road Safety Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes safe driving behavior.  He will also work remotely with an Emmy Award-winning director to film his idea and make it into a public service announcement that will be broadcast on more than 160 TV stations nationwide.  It will also be shown at the LA Auto Show® this May, 21-31 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The Drive Safe California Contest is sponsored by The National Road Safety Foundation and promoted by the LA Auto Show.

Overson, who said he wrestled with several ideas for a PSA, wanted something that would get his attention if he were watching TV.  His winning concept, titled «Dangers of Speeding,» shows 20 young people chatting on a Zoom call, congratulating Steve on getting his driver’s license.    As one of the friends reminds Steve that one out of five teens has a crash in the first year of driving, four of the Zoom boxes fade away.   Gary tells the group that speeding is to blame for 18 percent of fatal crashes involving girls, and four boxes with girls disappear.  Mary then says even more boys in crashes – 30 percent –die from speeding, and seven boxes with boys leave the call.  Alex says speeding causes 21 percent of all fatal teen crashes, and four more boxes disappear, leaving Steve alone on the call.   As he asks «Where did everybody go?» the words «There’s No Need to Speed» come on the screen and an announcer says «No matter how you do the math, it adds up the same: There’s no need to speed.»

«Isaiah’s concept is compelling since it puts human faces to the statistics of speed-related traffic crashes,» said Michelle Anderson, Director of Operations at The National Road Safety Foundation.  «It shows that speeding can be much more costly than a ticket.»

«Today’s cars are safer than ever, with technological advances that help avoid crashes,» said Terri Toennies, President of the LA Auto Show.  «But we need to remain vigilant in spreading the message, especially with young drivers, about the importance of responsible driving and the dangers of speeding.  We look forward to having Isaiah’s PSA shown at our show this May.»

The runner-up in the Drive Safe California PSA Contest is Madellyn Lee, 17.  A student a West High School in Torrance, CA., she will get a $1,000 prize from The National Road Safety Foundation.

The National Road Safety Foundation, Inc. (NRSF) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that for nearly 60 years has been dedicated to reducing crashes, deaths and injuries on our nation’s highways by promoting safe driving habits through greater public awareness.

NRSF programs deal with distracted driving, speed and aggression, impaired driving, drowsy driving, driver proficiency and pedestrian safety. SACRAMENTO, Pa., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — For EVSR, the country’s leading builder of 100% electrically powered sports racing cars, 2020 was a resounding success. Despite a truncated schedule, caused by the cancellation of many targeted racing events due to the COVID pandemic, EVSR managed to continue to break records and reach milestones with its unique battery-powered single seat racing cars.

  • A new second generation of racing car was developed and competed on tracks around the Northeastern US. The EVSR Gen 2 car quickly proved it was quicker and easier to maintain than the original first-generation car.
  • EVSR became the first plug-in electric race car team to race three electric vehicles (EVs) on a closed road racecourse at The SCCA Labor Day Spectacular at Summit Point Motorsports Park.
  • EVSR proved that its racecars are incredibly quiet with on-track testing. This could prove important, especially as noise regulations come into play at more racing venues.
  • EVSR puts more racers into the driver’s seat. At almost every event it attends, EVSR has found a way to put licensed racing drivers on track for their first experience with an electric racing car. Invariably, they find the experience exhilarating.
  • EVSR had big success at the Annual Green Grand Prix event at Watkins Glen International raceway. Teaming with the Alfred State College Motorsports Program, EVSR entries finished first in the autocross, confirming the nimble nature of our sports racing cars, and received first in the Most Efficient Non-Production Vehicle class during an 80-mile road rally.
  • For the 2021 season, EVSR is accepting applications for a list of drivers for rentals and leases of EVSR’s Gen 2 racers.

EVSR also has big plans in place for the 2021 season. Over the winter, the team will be building more Gen 2 sports racers so that we can increase the size of our class and allow more racers into our cars.

Who we are: EVSR is a company located in Sacramento, PA that specializes in building a racing electrically powered sports racing cars on closed road racing tracks and at competitive hillclimb events. 2021 set to be Slovenia’s year of ‘Green Gastronomy’

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ —

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ —

Slovenia named European Region of Gastronomy 2021
The Slovenian Tourism Board are delighted that Slovenia has been named European Region of Gastronomy 2021. Slovenia combines a rich natural larder and historic food traditions with influences spanning Italy in the west, Austria in the north and Hungary and Croatia to the east. Pair this with world-class chefs, a new Michelin guide and world leading wines, and you begin to understand why Slovenia is one of Europe’s most exciting new culinary capitals.

The unique advantage of Slovenian chefs is their privileged access to local ingredients. Their culinary philosophy is based on the principle from the ‘garden to table’ and this is a philosophy reflected in the close relationships between chefs and local producers, as well as the deep connections between Slovenian landscapes and traditional culinary experiences.

First ever Michelin guide to Slovenia unveiled
2020 was the year in which the first ever Michelin guide to Slovenia was unveiled. With 52 restaurants mentioned in total and six chefs being awarded a total of seven Michelin stars.

New Slovenian Green Cuisine Label announced
To further underpin Slovenia’s dedication to green gastronomy at all levels, the Slovenian Tourist Board  are announcing a new ‘Slovenian Green Cuisine’ label which will become part of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. It is a certification programme that celebrates the destinations and service providers placing sustainability at the core of their activities.

Slovenian wine reaches new global heights
Let us not forget Slovenia’s wine as the globe’s oldest vine grows in the Slovenian city of Maribor. Several of Slovenia’s boutique winemakers have been awarded top global prizes for their wines. This year’s Decanter World Wine Awards also saw Slovenia pick up a record number of awards – the orange wine produced in Slovenia’s north east region was named by Decanter as the best in the world.

Combine this all together and you’ll soon understand why Slovenia is Europe’s must-visit destination for unique and authentic culinary adventures in 2021. The Slovenian Tourist Board launched a new website in 2020 TasteSlovenia.si that tells the full story of gastronomy in Slovenia.  A special section is dedicated to boutique stories of innovative Slovenian chefs and their links to local producers and high-quality ingredients.

CAPE MAY, N.J., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The eDriving study identified the initial risk level of active[1] business drivers using the Mentor app (i.e., Very High Risk, High Risk, Medium Risk, Low Risk or Very Low Risk[2]), based on their first month’s FICO® Safe Driving Score – a score derived from driving behavior telematics. It then measured progress[3] over periods of six, nine, 12, and 18 months of using the app.

Over a six-month period, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced an average 32% increase in their FICO® Safe Driving Score (from 509 to 670), moving them up into the Medium Risk category. Over a longer period of 15-months, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced an even greater average increase in their FICO® Safe Driving Score of 38% (517 to 717), moving them up into the Low Risk category.

While FICO® Safe Driving Score improvement was the most significant for drivers who were initially identified as Very High Risk or High Risk, those identified as Medium Risk also improved, and Low Risk drivers maintained their good performance levels.

In terms of individual driving behaviors, users saw a significant decrease in the number of negative Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, Phone Distraction, and Speeding events, though the reduction in Speeding and Distraction events was most notable.

Speeding Reduction

  • Over a six-month period, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced an average 71% decrease in Speeding events (78 to 22 per month).
  • Over a period of 15-months, those initially categorized as V- ery High Risk or High Risk experienced an average 82% decrease in Speeding events (69 to 12 per month), confirming a sustained improvement in driver behavior when using the Mentor app over a longer period of time.
  • Drivers initially categorized as Medium Risk experienced a similar level of improvement, with an average 85% decrease in Speeding events (29 to 4) over a 15-month

Distraction Reduction

  • Over a six-month period, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced an average 39% decrease in Distraction events (142 to 86 per month).
  • Over a 15-month period, those initially categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk experienced an average 57% decrease in Distraction events (75 to 32), again demonstrating a significant and sustained improvement in driver behavior when using the Mentor program over a longer period.
  • Drivers initially categorized as Medium Risk saw an average 19% decrease (63 to 51) in Distraction events over a six-month period, and an average 39% decrease (44 to 27) in Distraction events over a 15-month

Other significant findings:

  • Over a six-month period, those initially categorized as Medium Risk saw an average 9% increase in their FICO® Safe Driving Score (668 to 729), moving them up into the Low Risk
  • Over a six-month period, those initially categorized as Low Risk sustained their classification, seeing a marginal average increase in their FICO® Safe Driving Score (767 to 770).

«When we launched Mentor to help organizations manage the safety of those who drive for work purposes, incorporating actual driving behavior insights and the flexibility to accommodate any vehicle type in any location, we knew this was a game-changer for driver risk management,» said Ed Dubens, Founder/CEO of eDriving. «Today, it’s incredible to think that 1.5 BILLION miles have been driven using the Mentor program around the world, and our analysis shows that driving behavior has significantly improved throughout the course of these trips. We’re proud that clients can witness such dramatic behavior change, and know they are proactively supporting and encouraging safer driving behaviors for the benefit of all road users.»

Launched globally in 2018, Mentor by eDriving is used by organizations around the world to help improve driver behavior among employees driving for work purposes. The digital program uses smartphone sensors to collect and analyze data on the driving behaviors most predictive of risk. These include Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, Speeding, and Phone Distraction, one of the biggest threats to road safety today.

Through eDriving’s partnership with industry analytics leader FICO, driver on-road performance is converted into an individual FICO® Safe Driving Score, which has been validated to help predict the likelihood of a driver being involved in a collision. Personalized insights are provided privately to drivers after each trip, showing both positive and negative driving events and exactly where they occurred. Additionally, engaging, interactive micro-training modules are delivered directly to the driver in-app to help promptly remediate identified risky behaviors.

«The FICO® Safe Driving Score was developed to address the ever-present issue of commercial fleet losses caused by collisions, and has been fine-tuned to the specific needs and requirements of fleet safety management programs,» noted Rachel Bell, Vice President, Scores & Analytics, at FICO. «We’re absolutely thrilled to see that this latest analysis unequivocally confirms the FICO® Safe Driving Score’s ability to be used to provide valuable and accurate driving insights, and to help promote sustainable improvement in driving behaviors, and a safer driving experience.»

Gogo AVANCE L3 Reaches 500 Business Aircraft Installations

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Gogo (NASDAQ: GOGO) AVANCE L3 inflight connectivity system is now installed and flying on more than 500 business aircraft.

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Gogo (NASDAQ: GOGO) AVANCE L3 inflight connectivity system is now installed and flying on more than 500 business aircraft.

AVANCE L3 delivers the benefits of the Gogo AVANCE platform to passengers and flight departments in a lightweight and much smaller form factor compared to other inflight connectivity systems with similar capabilities. AVANCE L3 allows users to customize their inflight experience based on their unique needs and can be installed on business aircraft of all types, but its size, cost and software-based scalable capabilities make it an ideal solution for smaller aircraft including turboprops and light jets.

From the time AVANCE L3 launched in January 2018, more than 120,000 flights have been flown with the system onboard. Gogo has shipped nearly 700 AVANCE L3 systems to date.

«We have seen demand for inflight connectivity increase across the board, but we’re seeing significant growth on smaller aircraft,» said Sergio Aguirre, president of Gogo Business Aviation. «Despite the pandemic, we’ve seen continued installations of the AVANCE L3, and to reach 500 aircraft online in this environment is a remarkable achievement. It speaks volumes about how important connectivity has become to operators today. It’s no longer considered a luxury – it’s now a necessity for most, even on smaller aircraft.»

There are numerous certification paths to install the AVANCE L3 including full equipment STCs and Wi-Fi STCs covering more than a hundred aircraft models. The system is actively being installed at several MROs and aftermarket OEM service centers.

Aguirre added: «During the pandemic, connectivity like the AVANCE L3 provides has become even more valuable for many operators because they are relying more heavily on their business aircraft to provide a safer, more secure travel environment that is healthier for passengers and crew.»

For customers looking for full internet connectivity, AVANCE L3 can be enabled to connect to the Gogo Biz data network delivering a 3G experience. The L3 also allows passengers to stay connected to email; send text messages and make voice calls with Gogo Text & Talk; and comes equipped with Gogo Vision 360 for unlimited streaming of on-demand movies, TV programming and news, along with digital magazines and a state-of-the-art 3D moving map, all at a fixed monthly price eliminating the unpredictability and often high costs associated with inflight streaming video and audio.

AVANCE L3 comes with three service offerings at different price levels to best meet a customer’s needs. It’s the ultimate in flexibility and scalability of performance and cost.

About Gogo
Gogo is the leading global provider of network and broadband connectivity products and services for the business aviation market. We offer a customizable suite of smart cabin systems for highly integrated connectivity, inflight entertainment and voice solutions. Gogo’s products and services are installed on thousands of business aircraft of all sizes and mission types from turboprops to the largest global jets, and are utilized by the largest fractional ownership operators, charter operators, corporate flight departments and individuals.

There are nearly 1,650 business aircraft currently flying with Gogo’s AVANCE L5 or L3 installed. As of third quarter earnings reported on Sept. 30, 2020, Gogo had more than 10,000 connected aircraft, comprised of 5,577 aircraft flying with its air-to-ground (ATG) systems onboard, and 4,737 aircraft with satellite connectivity installed. Cambria Hotels Continues Expansion Across Tennessee

ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH) has awarded franchise agreements to Victor Patel of VRL Hotels to develop new <a target="_blank"…

ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH) has awarded franchise agreements to Victor Patel of VRL Hotels to develop new Cambria Hotels in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. These agreements further the upscale brand’s traction in Tennessee, which includes the already open Cambria Hotel Nashville Downtown as well as soon-to-open Cambria Hotel Nashville Airport and a future property in Nashville’s West End neighborhood. These proposed hotels will join other Cambria locations in top vacation destinations like Anaheim, California; Madeira Beach, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina; Ocean City, Maryland; and Sonoma, California.

«The Cambria Hotels brand had robust development activity heading into the recent downturn, and we continue to grow despite the current challenging landscape,» said Mark Shalala, senior vice president of development, upscale brands, Choice Hotels. «Since June, we’ve added five new hotels coast to coast — from Madeira Beach, Florida to Sonoma, California — and our developers continue to be heavily invested in the growth of the brand, as evidenced by these new franchise agreements in two highly sought-after leisure markets in Tennessee. We look forward to building on our success as we close out the year and begin a new one with more excitement on the horizon for the brand.»

–  Cambria Hotel Gatlinburg: The 140-room in Gatlinburg-area hotel is expected to open in 2022, and will feature a rooftop bar and restaurant. Known as the «Gateway to the Smokies,» the proposed hotel will be situated in downtown Gatlinburg in the heart of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is the most visited national park in the United States and is part of the Appalachian Trail, offering more than 850 miles of trails, camping, fishing, biking and horseback riding. The future hotel is in the epicenter of this vibrant mountain resort city, which includes Ober Gatlinburg, the only ski resort in the state, the Gatlinburg SkyLift, which takes people 1,800 feet up to the top of Crockett Mountain, and the Gatlinburg Space Needle, where visitors can take in 360-degree views of the Smoky Mountains. Additional area attractions, many of which are within walking distance of the planned hotel, include Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and Haunted Adventure, as well as the Rocky Top Sports complex and many bourbon distilleries, breweries and wineries. The Gatlinburg Convention Center is also only one block from the future hotel.

–  Cambria Hotel Pigeon Forge: The proposed 140-room hotel in Pigeon Forge is expected to open in 2024. In addition to its mountain town atmosphere, the area near the future hotel is well known for being home to Dollywood, named after country singer Dolly Parton and one of the biggest tourist attractions in Tennessee, and features an Appalachian-themed park consisting of rides, an adjoining water park, a museum of her costumes and memorabilia, as well as the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame and Museum. Other major draws near the planned hotel include the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge, Titanic Museum Attraction, NASCAR SpeedPark Smoky Mountains and seasonal outdoor events throughout the year, such as Winterfest.

Cambria hotels feature upscale amenities and approachable indulgences that appeal to modern travelers, including:

–  Locally inspired design décor, reflecting the unique personality of the surrounding community.
–  Multi-purpose indoor and outdoor spaces for productive work or relaxation.
–  Contemporary and sophisticated guest rooms, complete with design forward fixtures, abundant lighting and plush bedding.
–  Immersive, spa-style bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors.
–  On-site dining featuring freshly made food, local craft beer, wine and specialty cocktails, as well as to-go options.
–  Multi-function meeting and event space.
–  State-of-the-art fitness centers.

All Choice-branded hotels are participating in Commitment to Clean, an initiative that builds upon the strong foundation of franchisees’ long-standing dedication to cleanliness with enhanced training and best practices for deep cleaning, disinfecting and social distancing. Additionally, Cambria guests can limit their interactions with hotel staff by using the Cambria Contactless Concierge Service, a text messaging service for housekeeping requests, to-go food orders, meeting room requests and more.

Patel, who is developing both Cambria hotels in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, has over 15 years of experience with building hotels, including additional Choice-branded properties. There are currently over 50 Cambria hotels open across the U.S. in popular cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans and Phoenix.
