IRVINE, California, Sept. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Last night, National Geographic and Mazda closed the first-of-its-kind photography-based competition, Assignment: Inspiration. Sam Tippetts was announced the winner and next great National Geographic storyteller on a special that aired on National Geographic.

The Assignment: Inspiration program began with a contest shared through the National Geographic Your Shot Instagram account, inviting emerging photographers to tell a visual story about where they find inspiration. Mazda launched this competition as part of its Power of Potential platform, which honors individuals making a difference, realizing their potential and ultimately inspiring others.

From those submissions, National Geographic and Mazda selected three storytellers to compete in a series of photography quests. These challenges were inspired by an exploration of Hiroshima, Japan that National Geographic photographer and Assignment: Inspiration mentor David Guttenfelder experienced with Mazda. On the journey, Guttenfelder took in the city’s heritage to gain a deeper understanding of Mazda’s design values: Takumi craftsmanship, ingenuity and passion for uplifting others.

The three Assignment: Inspiration finalists Nina Mayer Ritchie, Beth Mancuso and Sam Tippetts created amazing, uplifting photographs. In the end Tippetts, a young, intrepid photographer from Boerne, TX was declared the winner.

«Throughout the quests, Sam’s devotion to visual storytelling resonated with us,» Mazda North American Operations CMO Brad Audet said. «Mazda’s designers and engineers have a similar approach to their work as artisans who seek mastery of their skills. They diligently transfer their passion, into each project to create a vehicle that evokes a feeling.»

Tippetts officially becomes the next Mazda Content Partner and National Geographic storyteller with an official assignment for National Geographic Travel where his original work will be published on National Geographic Travel’s digital platforms.

«Photography is the heart of National Geographic, and an essential part of our 132-year legacy of telling stories that matter,» said George Stone, Executive Editor of National Geographic Travel. «Seeing the next generation of visual storytellers use their talents to inspire people to care more about the planet inspires us. We are excited to see where Sam takes his assignment, and we look forward to sharing the results on our National Geographic Travel platforms.»

Produced through National Geographic CreativeWorks, the branded content studio for National Geographic and part of Disney CreativeWorks, with Radley Studios, the competition had cross-platform promotion with unrivaled reach across National Geographic’s social and digital properties, including digital video and social components, spotlighting the photographers competing in the contest.  The partnership reached more than 225 million U.S. fans and followers of National Geographic’s social and digital social properties.

Honda, Andretti Autosport Sweep Mid-Ohio Closer

LEXINGTON, Ohio, Sept. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Honda drivers and teams – led by the Andretti Autosport trio of Colton Herta, Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay – dominated the second half of the Honda Indy 200 doubleheader at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, sweeping the top five finishing positions in Sunday’s second 75-lap NTT INDYCAR SERIES race of the weekend.

Honda drivers and teams – led by the Andretti Autosport trio of Colton Herta (center}, Alexander Rossi (left) and Ryan Hunter-Reay – dominated the second half of the Honda Indy 200 doubleheader at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, sweeping the top five finishing positions in Sunday’s second 75-lap NTT INDYCAR SERIES race of the weekend.

With seven wins in 11 races this season, Honda continues to lead the IndyCar Manufacturers’ Championship, with an unofficial total of 911 points to 824 points for Chevrolet, as the company seeks a third consecutive manufacturers’ title in 2020.  Today’s race was the second podium sweep for Honda this season, as Takuma Sato led a 1-4 finish for Honda drivers at last month’s Indianapolis 500.

Scoring his first win of 2020, but the fourth Indy car win in just the second year of his career, Herta led 57 of the 75 laps today, resisting an early challenge from fellow Honda driver and championship points leader Scott Dixon, then maintaining a narrow, but consistent advantage over his teammates Rossi and Hunter-Reay to the finish.  For Andretti Autosport, the 1-2-3 sweep was the first for the team since the 2005 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Finishing second and third, respectively, Rossi and Hunter-Reay fought for position throughout the day, but running identical strategies and with clean pit stops for both, ran in virtual lock step once Rossi passed his teammate during the opening stint of the race.  Graham Rahal came from 12th on the grid to finish fourth, while Marcus Ericsson gained 10 positions in an impressive run in the opening laps to complete the top five finishers for Honda.

While dueling with Rossi and Hunter-Reay following the first round of pit stops, championship leader Dixon survived a spin exiting turn one to recover in 19th.  He then spent the rest of the day working his way through the field to finish 10th and maintain an unofficial lead of 72 points in the Drivers’ Championship battle after 11 of 14 races.

Next
Following this weekend’s Honda Indy 200 doubleheader at Mid-Ohio, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES takes the next two weekends off, before resuming October 2-3 for the Indy Harvest GP, the final doubleheader and penultimate race weekend of 2020, on the road course of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Honda Racing social media content and videos from the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will be available on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/HondaRacingHPD) and on Twitter at  (https://twitter.com/HondaRacing_HPD). Produced by the CoForce Digital Media, YouTube video packages can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/HondaRacingHPDTV

Quotes
Colton Herta (Andretti Autosport Honda) Started first, finished first; first win of 2020 and fourth career win: «I’m so happy.  We’ve been knocking on the door [of a victory] almost every weekend.  We’ve had the pace, but for some reason or another, something has gone wrong.  But we finally put everything together. Got the pole this morning, the entire Capstone Andretti crew produced a stellar car and a Honda/Andretti 1-2-3, so happy to be powered by Honda. Now we just need to be finishing on the podium on every other weekend.  It seems like we’re only on the podium when we win. So if we can fill in those other races with seconds and thirds, I’ll be very happy then.»

Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport Honda) Started 10th, finished second: «I’m just so happy for Andretti Autosport, Michael [Andretti] and everyone on the team.  It’s been a terrible year for us, so to have a good day today, huge hats off to Colton and the ’88’ guys, and for the team to sweep the podium for the first time since 2005 is very cool.  We’re just focusing on race wins at this point, and really trying to build a good foundation for next year.  I think we’re doing that right now, so this is definitely a step in the right direction.  It’s great to be running up front again.»

Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport Honda) Started eighth, finished third: «The race was all right.  Alex [Rossi] and I both had a great start, and fought the whole way.  The guys did a great job in pit lane, and it was nice to have a solid day.  The team needed it.  We’ll pick up from here and hopefully keep this momentum rolling.»

Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda) Started 12th, finished fourth: «I think we had the pace [to win], and our Fifth Third Bank guys did a great job. I’m extremely pleased with the way the weekend went, it was a strong two days.  I think we’ll be very competitive at [the next race] at Indy, I expect we’ll be in contention [for the wins] there. It was great to have the crowd [the circuit was allowed] here.  Thanks to everyone who came.»

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started third, finished 10th; unofficially leads drivers’ championship by 72 points with three races remaining: «We tried to set up the car so that the tires would remain strong throughout a long run, so our cold [tire] pressures were really low.  We struggled on the restarts as a result, so I got a little aggressive, hit the ‘overtake’ button on the exit of Turn One and just had way too much Honda power there, so it just spun the tires and spun the car.  Total rookie mistake, and I’m so bummed for the team, it’s a mistake I shouldn’t have made.  Fortunately, we were able to fight our way back up to 10th, but it should’ve been a much better [championship] points day.»

Allen Miller (Race Team Principal, Honda Performance Development) on today’s seventh Honda win of 2020: «What a great day for Honda at Mid-Ohio, the home race for all of our Ohio associates.  Honda power was on full display for everyone to see today.  Congratulations to Colton [Herta] and everyone at Andretti Autosport for their dominating 1-2-3 podium sweep.  Graham [Rahal] produced another excellent performance and showed that he is coming on strong in the final races of the season; and Scott Dixon fought his way back through the field.  Just a great day for everyone, and we hope all our fans can return in full force here next year.»

ONE EXHILARATING RIDE

The greatest measure of a vehicle’s response is the one it invokes in the driver. And it’s precisely why every element of the high-performance RC F is painstakingly scrutinized to minimize weight while maximizing aerodynamics. From hollow half shafts down to the smallest components like a compact air conditioning compressor, every gram was purposefully crafted for optimal performance.

Lexus engineers worked with the RC F GT3 racing team to create a unique aerodynamics strategy that increases downforce for better grip and control through every turn. Even the airflow inside the wheel wells was carefully calculated. Air exits through the fenders, allowing the suspension to perform without disruptive air pressure, simultaneously enhancing handling and stability. And taking traction to the next level, each tread line on the RC F’s Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires features a specially developed compound to maximize grip.

From its muscular stance and available Premium Triple-Beam LED headlamps and taillamps, to its driver-inspired cabin including aggressively styled high-back sport seats, the RC F is the ultimate F, inside and out – on and off the track.

The win is the first overall «weekend sweep» for Acura in two and a half seasons of multi-class competition for the manufacturer in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship; and provisionally vaults Acura, Meyer Shank Racing and the full-season driver lineup of Farnbacher and McMurry to the top of the GTD points championships.

Acura Team Penske
Fighting back from an early-race penalty for a pair of pit lane violations during the first round of pit stops, Castroneves and Taylor recovered from a one-lap deficit to the field at the one-hour mark to regain the lead lap by the end of the second hour.  The pair joined the battle for the race victory in their #7 Acura Team Penske ARX-05 in the final two hours.  With just over an hour remaining, Taylor used lapped traffic to pass his teammate Dane Cameron in the #6 Acura and eventually build a 14-second lead over the field.

The #6 ARX-05 of Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya had an equally fraught race, with contact at the race start resulting in a spin for Cameron.  Quickly recovering, Cameron was up to second place just 30 minutes into the contest. The pair remained in the hunt for the victory until the final minutes of the race, when contact with a GTD-class Ferrari that was returning to the circuit after sliding off course resulted in heavy damage to the #6 Acura, ending their day.

The crash resulted in a full-course caution and erased a seven-second lead for Castroneves. But he held on for the final two laps of green-flag racing as he and Taylor combined for the second consecutive win of 2020, following their victory last month at Road America.

Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo
In the always competitive GTD division for production-based cars, Farnbacher, McMurry and endurance-race addition Michimi prevailed in a typical multi-manufacturer battle for the class victory, with a strong double-stint to the finish by defending champion Farnbacher sealing the victory for the trio’s Acura NSX GT3 Evo, which also marked the first victory of 2020 for the 22-year-old McMurry in his 150th IMSA race start.

Combined with a trio of podium finishes earlier this season, Acura now leads the GTD Manufacturers’ Championship by eight points after six races in 2020.  Farnbacher and McMurry lead the drivers’ title chase by 12 points, and Meyer Shank Racing also has a 12-point lead in the teams’ championship.

The #57 Heinricher Racing with MSR Acura of Alvaro Parente, Misha Goikhberg and Trent Hindman encountered early difficulties after a pair of off-course excursions in the opening hour.  An additional spin in the second hour resulted in damage to the front bodywork of the #57 Acura, but the trio persevered to a sixth-place finish.

Quotes
Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s double victory for Acura: «This is a great day for Acura and HPD, and for all the hardworking associates on our IMSA programs, our excellent drivers and partner teams.  This is also a great reward for [Acura Brand Officer] Jon Ikeda, who has spearheaded the return of Acura to IMSA competition as we prove the brand is the home of Precision Crafted Performance.  Congratulations to everyone at Acura Team Penske and Meyer Shank Racing, and let’s keep it up as we head to our ‘home’ race at Mid-Ohio later this month.»

Ricky Taylor (#7 Acura Team Penske ARX-05) race winner, 2nd consecutive victory of 2020: «We’ve been fighting back all year, today was just a synopsis of our season.  Coming from a lap down and a complete nightmare of a start of the race, but we’ve all made mistakes, and Helio’s recovery was brilliant.  When he’s angry, look out!  He fought back so hard.  We got back to the front, and he made it look easy at the end.  Acura, HPD and Team Penske, it’s an awesome combination.»

Helio Castroneves (#7 Acura Team Penske ARX-05) race winner, 2nd consecutive victory of 2020: «I made a mistake at the beginning, unfortunately.  I like to think I drive like a 20-year-old, but sometimes I make the mistakes of a 20-year-old, too!  Thankfully, [team president] Tim Cindric is always cool, and made all the right calls to get us back in the race, and we got the yellow [caution flag] that worked in our favor.  Finally, we got in the lead thanks to this guy [Taylor].  It was just a great job from everyone: Acura, HPD and Team Penske.  Two in a row, baby, let’s go for more.»

Mario Farnbacher (#86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo) GTD winner, first win of 2020, leads the GTD drivers’ championship after six races: «This win is such a relief for us, it’s something that we’ve come so close to getting but just couldn’t quite get there. The crew really worked their asses off during the pit stops today. We were really unlucky during the [season opening] Rolex 24, and we have progressively been working really hard to keep collecting points for the championship. Now, to finally get the victory it’s such a good feeling. There’s so many people working behind the scenes, HPD, Acura, MSR, that have all helped us to get here.»

Matt McMurry (#86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo) GTD winner, first win of 2020, leads the GTD drivers’ championship after six races, made his 150th race start in IMSA competition today: «Today the MSR guys just did everything right and the crew did so awesome – all of our pit stops were super-fast. Shinya [Michimi] started the race off really strong and put me in a good position for when I had to get in the car, and Mario finished perfectly. To get a win on my 150th race start is a pretty good feeling too. A big thank you to everyone at MSR, HPD and Acura for giving us a great car today.»

Mike Shank (team owner, Meyer Shank Racing): «This was a big win for us in many ways. We’ve come so close to getting a win [this year] and we just couldn’t make it happen. So this win, especially during an endurance event, was really good for us. This win also puts us in a good position in the championship. We’ve been staying consistent with our finishes which will help us in the long run. Shinya did a great job considering he has not been in the car since January. Matt continues to show improvements each race and Mario did what he needed to do to bring it home in the end. I’m really proud of these guys, especially the crew who just knocked it out of the park on pit stops today. I’m really happy with the result today.»

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The 2021 Honda Civic Type R begins arriving in dealers today, heightened by the addition later this month of the ultimate street-legal Type R, the Limited Edition. Since its U.S. debut in 2017, Civic Type R has quickened the pulses of hot-hatch enthusiasts, earning widespread praise from media and owners alike. The new Limited Edition model turns up Type R performance further still, with lower weight, improved handling, a higher-performance wheel and tire combination, and an exclusive, eye-catching Phoenix Yellow paint.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R begins arriving in dealers today, heightened by the addition later this month of the ultimate street-legal Type R, the Limited Edition. Since its debut in 2017, Civic Type R has quickened the pulses of hot-hatch enthusiasts, earning widespread praise from media and owners alike. The new Limited Edition turns up Type R performance further still, with lower weight, improved handling, a higher-performance wheel and tire combination, and exclusive Phoenix Yellow paint.

The 2021 Civic Type R comes with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $37,495, while the Type R Limited Edition has an MSRP of $43,995 (neither including the $955 destination and handling charge). With only 600 Limited Edition units available, it is recommended buyers contact their local authorized dealerships directly for availability of this exclusive model.

The 2021 Type R Limited Edition will come in an exclusive Phoenix Yellow color, with gloss black paint on the roof, outside mirror caps, and intake vent on the hood, along with a dark chrome Civic badge on the rear hatch. Inside, each Limited Edition has a special numbered plaque on the center console designating its build number.

The 2021 Civic Type R and Type R Limited Edition carry forward the numerous updates made to the 2020 Type R, including the freshened front and rear exterior styling, larger grille opening and radiator for improved engine cooling, and interior updates such as the Alcantara™-wrapped steering wheel, and a new weighted shift knob. Both feature the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard equipment, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collison Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

TYPE R LIMITED EDITION
The 2021 Type R Limited Edition embodies multiple engineering and feature changes designed to maximize performance, without sacrificing Type R’s unique combination of razor-sharp performance and civilized daily-driving manners.

Racers know that reducing weight is key to better performance at the track, which is why a number of measures were taken to reduce the curb weight of the Type R Limited Edition by 46 pounds versus the standard Type R.

Replacing the standard Type R wheels with lightweight forged-aluminum alloys from BBS saves the Type R Limited Edition an additional 18 pounds of unsprung weight, which has an important impact on agility and roadholding with a side benefit to ride comfort. The lighter weight results in lower rotational inertia, an effect amplified by lightweight two-piece floating front brake rotors that were applied to all Type Rs in 2020, which yielded a 2.5 pounds of weight savings per side. Going further still, 28 pounds of sound deadening materials have been removed from the roof, rear hatch panel, and front fenders and dash; even the cargo cover, rear heater ducts and rear wiper mechanism were removed to save weight.

The Type R Limited Edition also features grade-exclusive Michelin Cup 2 tires with improved cornering performance2. To take full advantage of the lighter weight wheels and extra-grippy tires, Limited Edition features unique programming for the Active Damper System (ADS), which was already updated just last year to sample inputs 10 times faster the before. Similarly, the electrically assisted power steering has been reprogrammed to match the elevated dynamic performance and lighter weight of the BBS alloys. The result is an even more rewarding driving experience, especially during on-track driving.

Under the hood, the 2021 Civic Type R and Type R Limited Edition draw power from the same race-bred 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with VTEC™ valvetrain, putting out a peak 306-horseopwer (SAE net) and a peak 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), with power to the front wheels delivered through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Both Type R models allow drivers to choose between three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – that vary throttle mapping, damping force and steering assist.

Suzuka Track Record
The Civic Type R Limited Edition (European spec) recently stormed to a new front-wheel drive track record at Suzuka Circuit, Honda’s Formula 1 racetrack in Japan, with a time of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds. Originally built as a test facility for Honda, the 3.6-mile Suzuka track’s figure-8 configuration today is known worldwide as a highlight of the Formula 1 season as a driver and fan favorite.
