SPEEDWAY, Indiana, Aug. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Takuma Sato passed a previously dominant Scott Dixon with just 15 laps remaining in today’s Indianapolis 500, and went on to score his second win at the famed «Brickyard» in a race dominated by Honda teams and drivers.

Takuma Sato (center) led a Honda sweep of the top four finishing positions at today's Indianapolis 500. Scott Dixon (#9, top) finished second, followed by Graham Rahal (#15) and Santino Ferrucci.

Although he led only twice for a total of 27 laps, Sato’s Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda was fast when it counted, in the run from the last round of pit stops to the checkered flag.  Exiting the pits in second to Dixon, Sato swept into the lead on lap 185, then held off several attempts by Dixon to repass as the pair worked their way through lapped traffic.  The race was decided on Lap 196 of the scheduled 200, when Spencer Pigot crashed hard exiting Turn 4, leading the race to end under the caution flag.  The win is the second at Indy for Sato, following his initial «500» triumph in 2017.

Prior to the final pit stops, Dixon had dominated the day in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, leading a race-high 111 laps as the championship leader sought his own second Indy victory.  Starting in the middle of the front row in the 33-car field, Dixon took the lead at the Green Flag and went on to control much of the 200-lap contest, especially after Alexander Rossi, in a strong running Andretti Autosport Honda, crashed out of the race on Lap 143.  Prior to his contact with the wall, Rossi led four times for a total of 17 laps as he and Dixon edged away from the field in the middle portion of the race.

But both Rahal Letterman Lanigan Hondas came on strong in the closing laps, with Sato’s teammate Graham Rahal closing the gap to the lead pair in the final laps to finish third.  After a disappointing qualifying effort, Santino Ferrucci conducted an exciting late-race effort of his own, finishing fourth to complete a Honda 1-2-3-4 sweep at the finish.

Honda drivers claimed eight of the top-10 finishing positions, with James Hinchcliffe recovering from a clutch problem encountered in his second pit stop to finish seventh, with his Andretti Autosport teammate Colton Herta eighth.  Jack Harvey had his best Indy finish to date with a ninth-place result for Meyer Shank Racing; while Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the top 10 in his Andretti Autosport Honda.

Quotes
Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda) Started 3rd, finished 1st; second Indy 500 win; 13th victory for Honda at Indianapolis: «I think we had the best car. Only we were a lap short from Dixie [Scott Dixon] in terms of the fuel strategy, and [making fuel mileage to the finish] was a little tight. I couldn’t use max power to switch back and forth. And Dixon kept coming through Turn 4 [on the final green flag lap] and I was just able to hold him off. This is unbelievable. Everyone did a hell of a job. HPD and Honda gave us a lot of power and a lot of fuel mileage.»

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Started 2nd, finished 2nd; led race-high 111 laps; increased his mid-season championship points lead to 84 over Josef Newgarden [335-251]: «This is a hard one to swallow. On fuel mileage, I really can’t see how [Takuma] Sato was going to make it [prior to the caution that ended the race]. We pitted a lap later, and the [fuel mileage] numbers they had to get, it was going to be very difficult. I thought they were going to throw a red flag [following a late-race crash by Spencer Pigot], which would have been interesting for the last four or five laps. Huge congrats to Takuma. He drove his pants off today. Rahal Letterman Lanigan, they were super fast, obviously finishing first and third. It was good day for Honda. I want to give a massive thank you to them. We’re very proud to be powered by HPD and Honda, and it’s nice to get some [championship] points. But it’s hard when the win slips away like that.»

Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan Honda) Started 19th, finished 4th«It was just an incredible race. The SealMaster Honda was insane today. The guys worked really hard on pit lane, on the timing stand and the strategy was perfect.  I’m just really happy, after two incredibly long weeks of focusing on the car, we ended really good. During the first pit stop I got caught in neutral, and it was like a blessing in disguise. It set us way back, but the momentum we had just carried us. On the next restart [after a caution flag] we went from 25th right back into the top-10. It was where we needed to be and we just fought our way from there into the top-four.»

Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s Indianapolis 500: «This was a very satisfying win.  On behalf of every HPD team member and everyone back at HPD in Santa Clarita – who have all been pushing hard since last year’s race – thank you!  Congratulations to Takuma Sato, Graham Rahal and the entire Rahal Letterman Lanigan team for their one-three finish today; to Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing for his dominant run to lead 111 laps and second-place result; and to all of our partner teams and their great drivers.  Together we led all but 22 laps of today’s race, and scored an incredible 13th ‘500’ win for Honda.»

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In a thrilling «Fast Nine» final qualifying shootout for the coveted pole starting position, Marco Andretti edged fellow Honda driver Scott Dixon today by just 0.017 mph for the honor of leading the field to the green flag in next Sunday’s 104th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Marco Andretti is congratulated by fellow Honda driver Alexander Rossi after qualifying on the pole for the 104th Indianapolis 500

Takuma Sato completed a front-row lockout for Honda, as the manufacturer swept the front row and claimed 11 of the top-12 starting positions for next weekend’s race.  Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe will start on the second row, fifth and sixth, respectively.  The third row also is all Honda, with rookie Alex Palou starting seventh, followed by Graham Rahal and Alexander Rossi

Four different Honda-powered teams are represented in the top nine, including Andretti Autosport (Andretti, Hunter-Reay, Hinchcliffe and Rossi); Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (Sato and Rahal); Chip Ganassi Racing (Dixon) and Dale Coyne Racing with Team Goh (Palou).

Andretti’s four-lap margin over second fastest Scott Dixon was the third closest in «500» history.  Only 2012 (Ryan Briscoe over Honda’s James Hinchcliffe by 0.003 mph) and 1970 (Al Unser over Johnny Rutherford by 0.008 mph) were closer.

On Saturday, Honda drivers and teams also dominated first-round qualifying at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  In addition to placing eight drivers into the Fast Nine shootout, Honda drivers fill out the fourth row of the starting grid with Colton Herta, Marcus Ericsson and Spencer PigotFelix Rosenqvist will start in the middle of the fifth row, 14th; with Zach Veach in the middle of row six and Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey in the center of the seventh row.  Santino Ferrucci will start to the inside of Harvey after qualifying 19th ; while James Davison rounds out the 15-driver Honda field and will start 27th.

Quotes
Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport Honda) Pole qualifier, his first Indianapolis 500 pole, 11th Indy pole for Honda: «For me, I started feeling the wind on Lap 2, which meant it was going to be a long couple of laps! Laps 3 and 4 definitely were sort of sketchy. [On leading the field to the green flag to start next weekend’s Indianapolis 500] It’s the best seat in the house! Clean air is always good here. Speed’s always good here and man, horsepower’s so cool, isn’t it? Makes everything so much easier.  Honda did an unbelievable job, and our team rolled off so fast [from the first of practice].  I’m just so excited!»

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Qualified in the middle of the front row, second: «Massive thank you to Honda and HPD, they’ve done a tremendous job.  We know they’ve worked very hard for the race as well.  I feel like we didn’t leave much on the table, we could’ve also gotten the car a little more neutral, it was pretty ‘understeery’ right from the get-go.  But it is what it is, [Fast Nine qualifying] is tough, especially with the wind conditions today.  That’s what makes it so exciting, it was extremely close [for the pole] right there at the end and unfortunately, we came up a little bit short. But I’m extremely happy for Marco [Andretti]. He’s a great person and a really good racer.  We just have to try to beat them [in the race] next weekend.»

Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda) Qualified on the outside of the front row, third: «First, big congrats to Marco [Andretti] and Andretti Autosport, they did a fantastic job [winning the pole]. Starting on the front row is a big accomplishment for us.  Everyone at Rahal Letterman Lanningan Racing worked hard over the off season to improve our performance here and the results showed today.  Honda, great, great work from them, just a tremendous job from them and the team.  Now we shift to preparing for the race.  We have another practice this afternoon that will be extremely important; also ‘Carb Day’ [final practice on Friday].  We believe we have a strong car in race trim, we’re so already looking forward to the race on Sunday.»

Ted Klaus (President, Honda Performance Development) on today’s Indianapolis 500 pole and front-row sweep for Honda: «This has been a great weekend for Honda, and we’re thrilled to have the pole, and an all-Honda front row.  Everyone at HPD and our partner teams can take pride in the accomplishments this weekend. We all know that the race is going to be a battle. You’ll see tire degradation and pit strategy and fuel-saving strategy all play out just like it’s played out in years past. That’s why the race will be fascinating and fun to watch. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I don’t do anything to piss off the racing gods so that we can have one of our teams bring it home into Victory Circle next Sunday.»

Hyundai Motor Announces IONIQ Brand Dedicated to EVs, Opening New Chapter for Customer-Centric EV Experiences

SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Hyundai Motor Company today announced the launch of its new IONIQ brand dedicated to battery electric vehicles, opening a new chapter as a leader in the era of electrified mobility. Under the IONIQ brand, Hyundai will offer customer centric EV experiences centered on connected lifestyle solutions in line with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’.

<div id="prni_dvprnejpgb7f1left" style="WIDTH: 100%; TEXT-ALIGN: left"…

SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Hyundai Motor Company today announced the launch of its new IONIQ brand dedicated to battery electric vehicles, opening a new chapter as a leader in the era of electrified mobility. Under the IONIQ brand, Hyundai will offer customer centric EV experiences centered on connected lifestyle solutions in line with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’.

Hyundai Motor Announces IONIQ Brand Dedicated to EVs, Opening New Chapter for Customer-Centric EV Experiences

Under the IONIQ brand, Hyundai Motor will leverage its industry-leading manufacturing know-how in EVs to introduce three new dedicated models over the next four years with more innovative models to follow. The creation of IONIQ brand is in response to fast-growing market demand and accelerates Hyundai’s plan to lead the global EV market.

To fulfill IONIQ’s brand mission, Hyundai will combine its current EV capabilities – such as ultra-fast charging, spacious interior, and battery-supplied power – with future innovations that combine design, technologies and services to integrate in-car and out-of-car experiences for a seamless journey.

«The IONIQ brand will change the paradigm of EV customer experience,» said Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor Company. «With a new emphasis on connected living, we will offer electrified experiences integral to an eco-friendly lifestyle.»

Rebirth of IONIQ

Hyundai first introduced the term IONIQ, which fuses «ion» and «unique», when it announced Project IONIQ, a long-term research and development project focused on eco-friendly mobility. Based on the project, Hyundai in 2016 introduced a vehicle named IONIQ, the world’s first and only model to offer a choice of three electrified powertrain options – hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid and battery electric – within a single body type. Now, IONIQ represents Hyundai’s growing commitment to sustainability and innovation and will be instrumental in achieving the company’s clean mobility goals.

IONIQ brand was conceived to fuse life changing mobility with environmental performance and has so far been instrumental in delivering progress electrified. IONIQ will continue to create a new balance in clean mobility synchronizing eco-products within an eco-system of lifestyle solutions bringing connected living to a new generation.

IONIQ 5 / IONIQ 6 / IONIQ 7

Hyundai will be launching a range of numerically named EVs under the new brand, with the even numbers used for sedans and the odd numbers for SUVs.

The first model under the IONIQ brand will be the IONIQ 5 midsize CUV that will launch in early 2021. IONIQ 5 is based on the concept EV ’45’, which Hyundai unveiled at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2019 in Frankfurt as a homage to its very first concept car. IONIQ 5’s designers took inspiration from the past and integrated it with cutting-edge parametric pixels, a unique design element that Hyundai designers will continue to incorporate into future IONIQ models.

In 2022, Hyundai will introduce IONIQ 6 sedan, which is based on the company’s latest concept EV ‘Prophecy’, unveiled in March; followed by IONIQ 7, a large SUV in early 2024. Prophecy’s iconic exterior design is characterized by its aerodynamic silhouette of perfect proportions.

Likewise, IONIQ vehicles’ designs will have a common theme of ‘Timeless Value’. The vehicles will be inspired by past models, but they will be a bridge to the future.

E-GMP platform

IONIQ brand models will sit on an Electric Global Modular Platform, known as E-GMP, that will enable fast charging capability and plentiful driving range.

The EV-dedicated platform will allow Hyundai to reimagine the vehicle interior as «smart living space» with highly adjustable seats, wireless connectivity and unique features such as a glove box designed as drawers. The platform paradigm shift will extend into the user interfaces that will be simple, intuitive and ergonomically designed to help occupants feel at ease.

Strategy 2025

Hyundai Motor Group recently announced that the group aims to sell 1 million units of battery electric vehicles and take 10 percent share to become a leader in the global EV field by 2025.

Under Strategy 2025, Hyundai Motor Company itself aims to become the world’s third-largest automaker of eco-friendly vehicles by 2025, with 560,000 BEV sales in addition to FCEV sales.

The launch of the IONIQ brand dedicated to EV models reinforces the company’s commitment to clean mobility and reflects its ongoing transformation as a Smart Mobility Solution Provider with zero-emissions solutions.

London Eye Event: IONIQ Campaign

Hyundai has celebrated the launch of IONIQ by turning the London Eye into a giant letter «Q» using electric lights just before the official reopening of the famous attraction.

This marks the first event of the ‘I’m in Charge’ brand campaign, which promotes empowerment of the environment and diverse lifestyles through IONIQ.

With the otherwise bustling city of London having come to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hyundai is bringing new energy into the city by lighting up and turning on one of its most iconic sights once again.

By announcing the arrival of IONIQ, Hyundai’s light installation heralds a new era of electrified mobility that puts customers at the center.

A video of Hyundai turning the globally famous London Eye into a huge ‘Q’ can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/PL1scZfgrDA.

TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Honda is taking its upgraded 2021 Odyssey, on sale today, on a magical ride with some iconic characters and attractions from the Disneyland® Resort with the debut of «Enchanted Odyssey,» Honda’s latest social media campaign: (https://honda.us/EnchantedOdyssey).

Honda is celebrating its 15th year as the Official Vehicle of Disneyland® Resort and the «Enchanted Odyssey» campaign emphasizes features that make Odyssey the brand’s «Ultimate Family Vehicle,» including its first-in-class CabinWatch® rear-seat camera, spacious interior and the Disney Hits playlist presented by the Honda Odyssey (http://disneymusic.co/EnchantedOdyssey), available through Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, that plays through the minivan’s Display Audio system. In the «Enchanted Odyssey» campaign, a family travels down memory lane on a magical journey that mixes in iconic Disneyland® Resort attractions and characters, including Sleeping Beauty Castle, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Dumbo the Flying Elephant and, of course, Mickey Mouse, while listening to the Disney Hits playlist utilizing Apple CarPlay®. The campaign creative will be featured on Honda’s social media platforms, and will stretch across other digital properties.

Adding to the campaign, Honda is launching an extensive Pinterest campaign which includes a Pin Extension, an interactive microsite, featuring the 2021 Honda Odyssey. This interactive microsite on Pinterest is a first for the Honda brand and aligns with its Disneyland® Resort relationship, as Disney is the most searched brand on the platform1. Also on Pinterest, the campaign will use a combination of video, static and carousel pins, which enable fans to bookmark and save their favorite posts.

Refreshed 2021 Honda Odyssey
The Honda Odyssey has been America’s retail best-selling minivan for 10 consecutive years with more than 1.1 million vehicles sold over the decade. The 2021 model-year Odyssey going on sale today benefits from numerous enhancements to styling, technology and safety features. A new Rear Seat Reminder system is standard on all Odyssey trims, which uses an audible chime and a message displayed on the instrument panel to remind drivers to check the rear seat. Moreover, as an industry first, Odyssey trims with CabinWatch® also integrate the rear-seat camera system with the reminder, displaying the rear seating area on the Display Audio screen. In addition, the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies is standard equipment on all trims of the 2021 Odyssey.

Odyssey sets a high standard for minivans by focusing on features and capabilities required by families with children, such as ample interior space, seating flexibility and a driving experience that will keep parents happy. The Honda Odyssey is produced exclusively at Honda’s Lincoln, Ala. auto plant alongside the Honda Pilot, Passport and Ridgeline.
