TOKYO, May 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Polyplastics Group has announced the introduction of a new DURACON(R) polyoxymethylene (POM) grade which delivers improved diesel fuel resistance for the production of injection-molded automotive fuel system components. The new material complements Polyplastics’ flagship DURACON(R) POM portfolio which is already widely used for automotive fuel system components due to its superior mechanical properties, heat and fuel resistance, and excellent moldability.

The newly launched new grade, DURACON(R) H140DR, offers superior performance over competitive materials and is targeted for global markets. While drive systems will likely shift toward electrification, diesel engines are expected to remain in use for certain commercial vehicles, according to Polyplastics. Low-quality diesel fuel contains a high concentration of acid and sulfur which has a negative effect on POM.

Fuels that contain a high concentration of sulfur act on main polymer chains and facilitate decomposition in POM. Tests show the percentage of weight change (decomposition rate) when POM is immersed at high temperature in test diesel fuel with a high concentration of sulfur. DURACON(R) H140DR has superior resistance compared to a competitor’s improved diesel fuel resistant POM and a standard material.

DURACON(R) H140DR has a higher melt flow rate (MFR) than standard grade M90-44, resulting in good formability. It is also denser, with smaller crystal size, and thus has a high degree of crystallization compared to standard grade M90-44.

The new grade has the same level of creep-fracture properties versus competitive materials, and appears to have enough long-term mechanical resistance properties as well. Environmental stress fracture testing reveals that DURACON(R) H140DR has high resistance to external factors such as acid rain and various acidic solvents used in cars.

SEATTLE, 12 de mayo de 2020 /PRNewswire/ — En sus primeros pronósticos para COVID-19 fuera de América del Norte y Europa, el Instituto para la Métrica y Evaluación de la Salud (IHME por sus siglas en inglés) de la Universidad de Washington proyecta de manera preliminar cerca de 20,000 muertes en México, Perú y Ecuador agregados para principios de agosto.

«Las nuevas previsiones de IHME para América Latina y un número creciente de países en todo el mundo demuestran la amplia gama de respuestas que los responsables de las políticas y los funcionarios de salud han tenido ante la pandemia», dijo el director del IHME, Dr. Christopher Murray. «Nuestro objetivo es informar sus decisiones sobre la mejor manera de gestionar y movilizar recursos para COVID-19».

El pronóstico actual de IHME dura hasta el 4 de agosto y, como señaló Murray, las proyecciones del Instituto cambiarán a medida que se adquieran y analicen nuevos datos. Las fluctuaciones son de esperar.

Los hallazgos clave para las naciones latinoamericanas incluyen:

  • 8 estados de Brasil: 88.305 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 30.302 a 193.786
  • Siete estados de México: 6,859 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 3,578 a 16,795.
  • Perú: 6.428 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 2.731 a 21.724
  • Ecuador: 5,215 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 4,844 a 6,052
  • Colombia: se proyectaron 2,157 muertes hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 793 a 5,890
  • República Dominicana: 881 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 595 a 1,435.
  • Chile: 687 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 421 a 1,417
  • Argentina: 680 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 414 a 1,420
  • Panamá: 661 muertes proyectadas hasta el 4 de agosto, con un rango de 362 a 1,345

Además de las proyecciones de muerte, IHME también proyecta camas de hospital, camas de UCI y ventiladores para pacientes con COVID-19. A nivel nacional, Perú puede estar experimentando algunas de las escaseces más agudas de su historia; se prevé que supere la capacidad de las camas de las Unidades de cuidados intensivos durante mayo, junio y julio. Hasta el 12 de mayo, las estimaciones muestran una escasez de 944 camas de UCI en Perú, con 1,032 necesarias y 88 disponibles.

Además, algunos de los estados mexicanos pueden ver escasez de recursos hospitalarios. Tendencias menos llamativas a nivel nacional. Según los últimos datos disponibles, Baja California y Quintana Roo podrían experimentar una demanda total de camas hospitalarias que excede las capacidades actuales, mientras que todos los estados están en capacidad o experimentan escasez de camas en las UCI en relación con la necesidad. A partir del 12 de mayo, se espera que la Ciudad de México necesite 499 camas de UCI y cuenta con 192 disponibles, mientras que Baja California tiene una necesidad de 271 camas de UCI con solo 32 disponibles. Los hallazgos de hoy siguen las solicitudes de diversos líderes de salud para estimar las muertes y otras cifras relacionadas con COVID-19. Por ejemplo, los recursos hospitalarios necesarios para apoyar el abordaje de la pandemia.

A partir de hoy, las proyecciones del Instituto para todos los países y regiones incluidos se basan en un nuevo modelo híbrido. El modelo IHME, lanzado el 26 de marzo para estimar la demanda de recursos hospitalarios ahora se combina con un modelo de transmisión de enfermedades.

El nuevo modelo captura el impacto de los cambios en los mandatos de distanciamiento social, los cambios en la movilidad y las pruebas y el rastreo de contactos. Permite predecir un resurgimiento si y cuando los mandatos de distanciamiento social se relajan.

«El modelo híbrido nos permite hacer un mejor seguimiento de los cambios en los mandatos de distanciamiento físicos y otros factores como las pruebas, el seguimiento de contactos y la temperatura», dijo Murray. «Al igual que con todos nuestros pronósticos, estos se actualizarán periódicamente y se agregarán nuevos datos a medida que estén disponibles.
