IRVING, Texas, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Affirmity, a leading provider of workplace compliance and diversity and inclusion solutions working with U.S. federal contractors and a wide range of global businesses, has pooled its decades of expertise to create a new online training course to help manage unconscious bias.

With ongoing conversations on injustice and social division, Managing Unconscious Bias is a new course aimed at organizations interested in taking a proactive stance and tackling the issues faced by various social and identity groups. While acknowledging that some degree of unconscious bias is unavoidable even in the most forward-thinking businesses, the new course will help employees recognize how personal biases influence their behavior and offers strategies for managing those assumptions in their working lives.

«Organizational cultures that have seen sustained influence by unconscious bias, stereotypes and microaggressions can slowly become unhealthy, unproductive places to work,» explains Affirmity Diversity Advocate, Pamela Pujo. «We feel we have designed training that will help workers understand the issues without seeking to apportion the blame—we’ll show that though we can’t avoid our unconscious biases, we can recognize and counteract them.»

At 25 minutes in length, Managing Unconscious Bias is aimed at all employees regardless of seniority and industry and can be expanded with other essential diversity courses from Affirmity’s training catalog. The course can be configured using company branding and can be delivered using an organization’s existing learning management system (LMS) or can be hosted by Affirmity using the Instilled learning experience platform (LXP).

Affirmity’s courses are developed by a team of practicing HR professionals and experts in workplace diversity, and workplace-associated issues and law. The course’s learning objectives and chapters include:

  • Differentiating between conscious and unconscious biases and their impact in the workplace
  • Recognizing stereotypes and their associated impacts
  • Recognizing microaggressions and micro-inequities
  • Acquiring strategies to mitigate unconscious bias and microaggression in the workplace

Learners will have the opportunity to test their understanding of the material and receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

For more information and to register your interest, please see the course description on Affirmity.com.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Therabody, formerly known as Theragun®, the leader in tech wellness and percussive massage therapy, announced today that after aggressively enforcing its patent rights, it has reached settlement agreements with manufacturers and sellers of vibration massage devices, Hyper Ice, Inc. («HyperIce») and AchedAway (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. («Achedaway»).

In late 2019 and early 2020, Therabody filed patent infringement lawsuits in the United States District Court of California against both HyperIce and Achedaway, seeking damages and an injunction to prevent the companies from selling any products infringing on Therabody’s patented technology. In its settlement with Achedaway, Achedaway agreed to cease and desist using, manufacturing, and selling the product with the massage device attachment that infringes Therabody’s pre-existing ‘260 Patent of its Dampener Attachment and payment of an undisclosed amount. Following the lawsuit with HyperIce, HyperIce is no longer selling a massage device having the attachment at issue in the lawsuit.

The companies are no longer selling the massage device attachment that infringes on Therabody’s ‘260 Patent of its Dampener Attachment. Therabody has received an undisclosed payment to settle the claims. Additional details of the settlements were not disclosed, however, they fully protect Therabody’s intellectual property (IP) and patented technology.

Additionally, Therabody filed two lawsuits for infringement of the company’s rights in its distinctive trade dress and other patents against defendants Complete Recovery, Revolution Hustle LLC, and Dezhou Create Fitness Equipment Co., Ltd. («Dezhou») in California federal court, and Golovan Ltd. also known as Kraftgun and Dezhou in Florida federal court.

«As the creators of the percussive massage therapy market, Therabody has continued to pioneer the industry with cutting edge technology.  Therabody was the first in the industry to launch a smart percussive therapy device connecting to our mobile app via Bluetooth.  We are committed to investing a significant amount of time and capital to science, research, development, and validating the efficacy of our devices and attachments. Companies who simply copy our intellectual property validate the effectiveness of our products, yet gain an unfair advantage by not having to invest in their own product development,» said Benjamin Nazarian, CEO of Therabody. «We will continue to defend our intellectual property rights at every turn and through every legal measure. We are pleased that both HyperIce and Achedaway have agreed to recognize our patents and cease the sale of the infringing attachments.  We will continue to aggressively enforce our rights against other companies who infringe our intellectual property.»

As a global leader in percussive massage therapy, Therabody has developed numerous groundbreaking products and owns more than 110 granted and registered patents and designs worldwide reflecting its strength in research and product development. Most recently, Therabody was granted a U.S. utility patent that covers the company’s unique multi-grip handle which allows users to ergonomically reach more of their body than a hair dryer shaped device. For more than a decade, Therabody has pioneered and advanced the percussive massage therapy industry, edging out the competitive landscape, continuing to protect and defend its intellectual property as others seek to replicate and try to pilfer the years of dedication to science and research and development that Therabody has built and created.

Therabody has and will continue to take further legal actions to prevent others from selling any products infringing on its intellectual property. To date, Therabody has successfully removed more than 300 companies selling infringing products on Amazon and other retail sites.

ANDOVER, Minn., Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Public health experts agree that opening safely isn’t just about managing personal protection guidelines; it’s also about providing a healthy and safe physical environment within the school building. So while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), education leaders and communities finalize safe reopening guidelines for students, teachers and staff; school districts across the country are focusing on the «health» of school buildings and academic facilities.

According to Bruce Bomier, MPH, public health professional and board chair of Environmental Resource Council, a nonprofit that has been has been advising schools and other social and physical environments on health and safe-building procedures for almost 50 years, «The problem is, with constant heavy exposure burdens, the virus may represent a risk if the a school building’s environment is unhealthy. Having worked with hundreds of school properties regarding health concerns, we believe it is critical that reopening guidelines take air exchange and potential dilution of virus exposures into consideration.  Our natural biologic defensive and immune systems are simply more effective when potential airborne toxins are diluted through an environment’s sensitive controls.»

While it is important for school districts to take direction from local, state and federal public health authorities, following are tips to help keep school buildings healthy and reduce COVID-19 risk:

1.    Ventilation
Quality ventilation can reduce and often prevent droplets from spreading airborne. Servicing unit ventilators, sensitive adjustments to air filtering, structured cleaning of diffusers, and plans to respond to makeup air and air exchange as influenced by occupant density, must be incorporated into operational guidelines. Special consideration should be directed toward «factory styled,» enclosed schools constructed post-World War II with limited air exchange. Fortunately, many have been renovated, but not all.

2.  Air Quality
Scheduled air-quality testing is important, especially with a focus on dilution ratios in highly occupied areas. This involves more than having the routine HVAC mechanical engineer work to model pre-COVID-19 standards; rather, the air-quality standards must be oriented to public health — always factoring in use and density patterns, along with air exchange and filtration considerations.

3.  Lighting
There is significant research indicating that UV lighting may «break down» COVID-19, inhibiting its ability to contaminate. New technologies may allow for higher occupation of areas that have been exposed to ultraviolet lighting. While this option is still being studied, there is clear but preliminary meta-research indicating that the introduction of several variations of UV lighting will safeguard an enclosed environment. In general, improved lighting has been found important in the educational process in terms of both illumination and psychological effects. When possible, arrange classrooms to capture direct light from windows.  In addition, use blue-enriched lighting in rooms for areas that don’t have windows.

4.  Sanitization
Cleaning and sanitizing are different activities. Cleaning is primarily designed to remove food, dirt, human dander and other particles often found on surfaces in high-population density areas. Cleaning reduces bacteria, rendering the areas healthier. Sanitizing is focused on a level and separate type of hygiene that reduces virus-related disease. EPA- approved disinfectants will keep often-touched, smooth surfaces safer for prescribed periods of time — significantly reducing the potential for hand-to-mouth contact and consequent virus-related disease. Soft surfaces, such as carpets, curtains and some furniture, should also be cleaned with regularity.  However, next to airborne exposures, smooth surfaces in common areas, such as doorknobs, restroom areas and railings, represent the greatest possibility of virus transmission and require extra sanitization.

«We must keep what’s touched and inhaled as free as possible from potential exposure to COVID-19, helping our natural protective and immune systems to do their jobs in less dangerous environments. In fact, we nicknamed our building hygiene-oriented recommendations ‘an environmental mask for school buildings’,» shared Bomier.

Additional COVID-19 resources and technical assistance are available for school districts by contacting Environmental Resource Council at ENVRC.org.

The Ticktin Law Group Petitions Gov. DeSantis To Release Non-Violent Offender A Few Months Early From 15-Year Sentence As He Fears Catching COVID-19 Just As Florida Prison Boss Tests Positive

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Ticktin Law Group has officially urged Gov. Ron DeSantis to show clemency to a non-violent offender who has only seven months left to serve on a 15-year sentence while living in mortal fear of contracting COVID-19 from other…

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The Ticktin Law Group has officially urged Gov. Ron DeSantis to show clemency to a non-violent offender who has only seven months left to serve on a 15-year sentence while living in mortal fear of contracting COVID-19 from other prisoners.  Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Mark Inch was reported to be facing the highly infectious disease himself.

On behalf of the prisoner and author William Hawley, the law firm filed a writ of mandamus requesting the governor and The Florida Office of Executive Clemency to grant a commutation of sentence to release him a few months early so he won’t catch the virus becoming rampant among prison populations nationwide.

The writ filed in the Second Judicial Circuit in Leon County affirms Hawley is in constant fear for his life as prisoners around him fall ill. It cites Hawley as a model prisoner who throughout the course of serving this sentence has assisted Federal and State Government agencies on serious investigations and prosecutions of highly violent crimes.

«Why continue to hold a non-violent offender and highly skilled author to the last minute of his sentence when he has risked so much to help the criminal justice system to prosecute highly violent offenders at his own peril,» said Peter Ticktin, senior partner, The Ticktin Law Group, an author himself of What Makes Trump Tick.

Hawley wrote Dursturbed, a book about alleged serial killer, multimillionaire Robert Durst, soon to go on trial for murder in California and Hawley believes his book could shed light on Durst’s depravity.  A model inmate, he regularly consults his Warden on prison and inmate safety and is taking classes at a top university.

The writ seeks to compel Gov. DeSantis to resume holding hearings regarding requests for commutation of sentences or clemency or show why these hearings are not going forward when the pandemic puts many prisoners in jeopardy.

Petitioner Hawley is a Florida resident serving a Florida Criminal Sentence.  His petition affirms Gov. DeSantis has executive clemency power pursuant to the state constitution and oversees Florida Department of Executive Clemency.

The writ questions why the governor is not acting to release a non-violent offender just a few months early to avoid contracting the killer virus.

Brazil leverages breakthroughs in technology, productivity and safety to lead global agriculture and livestock market amid COVID-19

BRASÍLIA, Brazil, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Apex-Brasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), together with its partners from the private sector, today shared critical insights outlining the country’s upward trajectory in agriculture and livestock production, despite recent challenges predicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. A series of seven factsheets highlights Brazil’s continued advancements in agricultural technology, productivity and safety, which have positioned the country to effectively manage through the current crisis and prepare for a post-pandemic future.

These factsheets come out at a pivotal moment when the global agriculture market has been severely impacted by COVID-19. In fact, there’s mounting evidence that suggests that an estimated 265 million people could face acute food insecurity by 2020 – up from an estimate of 136 million people prior to the pandemic. However, despite these alarming trends, Brazil’s agricultural growth is showing no signs of slowing down. According to IPEA (the Ministry of Economy’s Institute of Applied Economic Analysis), Brazil’s agricultural sector is estimated to grow by 2.5% this year, with some private sector analysts estimating it could reach as high as 3%.

«For more than 40 years, Brazil has worked to establish itself as one of the main global players in farming and sustainability,» said Sergio Segovia, President of Apex-Brasil. «Through longstanding investments in both small and large-scale agricultural innovation, we’ve been able to tap into the entrepreneurial spirit of Brazilian farmers across the country, recording significant productivity gains while ensuring quality of our crops and livestock. As you’ll see from Apex-Brasil’s newly released factsheets, our evolution in the agricultural sector is just beginning. I’m confident that our leadership in this area will continue to flourish in years to come.»

The following key stats from the factsheets highlight the storied history of Brazil’s agricultural successes, as well as set the stage for the country’s international market growth both now and in the future:

Leveraging scientific innovation to increase agricultural yields:

  • Brazil’s focus on pioneering scientific innovation in soil chemistry, crop management and more have been decisive for its agriculture and livestock growth. For example, when compared to harvests from 1976/77, Brazil’s grain production increased by 414% in 2018/19, with total productivity increasing by 205%.
  • Innovation in biotechnology and nutrition has made it possible for Brazilian farmers to promote greater weight gain in chickens in a proportionally smaller amount of time. As a result, it’s estimated that Brazil produced 13.17 tons of chicken meat in 2018/2019 – 32% of which was used for export.

Prioritizing food safety to become a trusted international partner:

  • Brazil continues to be a leader in livestock safety, with more than 180 countries trusting Brazilian livestock products for export. By implementing a comprehensive sanitary inspection processes, including lab examinations of animal products, veterinary auditing visits and the surveillance of all exported plants, Brazil has been free of several OIE-monitored diseases, reinforcing its commitment to providing the highest-quality meat for export and domestic consumption.
  • Since 1992, Brazil has eradicated cattle-borne foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the country. Through its National Program to Eradicate Foot-and-mouth Disease, the country has progressively maintained disease-free zones in an effort to ensure international trust in Brazilian meat exports.

Increasing productivity by maximizing the efficiency of existing resources:

  • At present, Brazil currently accounts for 8% of world exports for agricultural products. Looking to the future, however, Brazil’s agricultural and livestock productivity is estimated to grow at rates well above the world’s average.
  • To ensure efficiency across the country’s 64 million hectares of cultivatable land, approximately 28% of all agricultural areas planted with grains and pulses in Brazil are used for a second harvest each year – aiding in the country’s overall productivity. For example, in 2020, the IBGE (the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) estimates that the second harvest will produce 70 million metric tons of maize, compared to 26.6 million metric tons produced in the first harvest.
  • By integrating pork and poultry supply chains, Brazil has been able to produce 25.5 million tons of beef, pork and chicken over the last year alone. In fact, it’s estimated that integration strategies have reduced the amount of capital investment required of Brazilian farmers by 7.2% – contributing to overall productivity gains.

NEW YORK, Aug. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — As the head of Gumley Haft, a New York property management firm, Daniel Wollman, CEO, is involved in thousands of people’s lives. He guides boards of co-ops and condos throughout the city on matters that effect residents of New York apartment buildings. With apartments ranging from over $500,000 to millions of dollars, Wollman’s company manages some of the most valuable and prestigious real estate in the country.

So just what is property management?

«Action is what property management is all about,» says Wollman, in typically energetic fashion. «Scheduling preventive maintenance each season. Projecting operating budgets and capital improvements. Hiring and firing staff. And, of course, planning for the safety of residents and employees in emergencies, such as in the Covid pandemic we are experiencing.»

Marking 30 years as the leader of Gumley Haft, Wollman has helped solve thousands of problems for boards, unit owners and shareholders. «We don’t consider any matter trivial,» asserts Wollman, who gets to his office at 7:15 a.m. dressed in jeans for quiet time to work on finances or talk to board presidents, then meets a contractor on a roof at 8:00 a.m.

«Our job is to communicate with people about their issues and needs,» states Wollman. «People respond when they understand all aspects of a problem. Solutions spring from taking action. A change, a compromise, even a restriction, leads to effectively resolving problems related to a building, or an individual.»

From renovation of lobbies and hallways, to compliance with continually updated New York City local laws regarding elevators to fire safety, Wollman oversees a team that handles buildings from uptown to downtown, from the Upper West Side to the Upper East Side, Kips Bay, Gramercy Park, the Village to Tribeca.

«We’ve worked with New York City co-op and condo boards for 30 years,» ruminates Wollman, at his huge desk, piled with papers, two computer screens, several phones, and coffee. «Every day, we solve issues unique to the New York resident that could range from the routine, to more complex problems that may be new to even us.»
