SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — DoorDash, the nation’s leading last-mile logistics platform, today announced that it will be hosting its first-ever merchant conference, The Main Street Strong Restaurant Conference, in partnership with the National Restaurant Association. Designed for local business owners, the event aims to bring together a community of restaurant leaders to collaborate with, learn from and inspire one another during the most challenging time in the restaurant industry’s history.

The National Restaurant Association will partner with DoorDash to create the event, bringing decades of experience working directly with local restaurants and advancing the causes of restaurateurs at a local and national level.

«The restaurant industry has suffered the most significant sales and job losses since the COVID-19 outbreak began. Events like these are important for restauranteurs to know that they are not alone, and we’ve found that engagement at this level can help inspire other businesses to change course, pivot and adapt in new ways while fostering a deeper sense of community,» said Perry Quinn, Senior Vice President, Business Innovation Development at the National Restaurant Association.

The event will feature a conversation with Stephanie Izard, Executive Chef/Partner of four Chicago restaurants: Girl & the Goat, Little Goat, Duck Duck Goat, and Cabra, James Beard «Best Chef: Great Lakes» recipient 2013, and the first woman to win Top Chef. Bringing nearly two decades of restaurant leadership experience, Chef Izard has first hand experience helping her six businesses adapt to the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

«The full impact of coronavirus on local restaurants has yet to be realized. Every day, restaurants face uncertainty as they continue to tirelessly serve their customers. In addition to ensuring we are providing the best tools and technologies for restaurants to accelerate into this new reality, we want to provide a sense of community for our restaurant partners and to do that we want to host a forum where restaurant owners can learn directly from each other about adapting during this time,» said Tom Pickett, Chief Revenue Officer at DoorDash. «We haven’t stopped asking ourselves what more we can be doing to help restaurants survive and this event aims to not only inspire restaurants during a critical time but to inspire us to better help one another navigate through this time together.»

The all-day, virtual event will feature keynotes, multiple tracks with breakout sessions, and round table discussions all designed to set up restaurants for success during an unprecedented time:

  • Stephanie Izard, Executive Chef/Partner, Girl & the Goat, Little Goat, Duck Duck Goat, and Cabra
  • Tanya Holland, Chef & Restaurateur, Brown Sugar Kitchen
  • Chef David Nayfeld, Che Fico
  • Tony Xu, Chief Executive Officer of DoorDash
  • ….and more to come!

At the height of the pandemic, DoorDash helped restaurants save $120 million through relief programs and marketing initiatives. Restaurants on DoorDash are four times more likely to have remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to U.S. restaurants as a whole*. More recently, DoorDash unveiled its Main Street Strong campaign, dedicated to helping restaurants navigate the recovery phase of coronavirus with all new policies, programs and initiatives to help restaurants get back on their feet such as DoorDash Storefront. And last week, DoorDash announced its support for the RESTAURANTS ACT, a bipartisan proposal to establish a $120 billion Revitalization Fund for independent restaurants across the U.S.

The virtual conference will take place October 8, 2020.  To learn more, receive updates and join our waitlist visit get.doordash.com/conference, we’ll be updating regularly with event updates, speakers and more.

BOSTON, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The AI-powered nonprofit startup Reboot Rx launches the Reboot: COVID-Cancer Project, a free, publicly accessible resource for researchers and physicians to quickly find and review data on COVID-19 and cancer. Cancer patients are among those with the highest risk of dying from COVID-19. From over 170,000 published studies and registered clinical trials, Reboot Rx has identified the 850 that are most relevant for cancer patients with COVID-19.

«The ability to comb through the literature comprehensively and rapidly to identify the relatively few important studies and trials is incredibly impressive,» reflected David Frank, MD, PhD, an oncologist and researcher at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. «The Reboot: COVID-Cancer Project has the potential to be enormously impactful for scientists and physicians.»

Reboot Rx is enabling the largest analyses on COVID-19 and cancer to date. The Reboot: COVID-Cancer Project provides crucial insights into treatment responses and mortality rates to understand how cancer patients are uniquely vulnerable to COVID-19. Through this effort, Reboot Rx is helping researchers and physicians pursue the most effective treatments.

Reboot Rx leveraged its domain expertise and AI technology in collaboration with Northeastern University and IBM Research’s Science for Social Good Initiative for the Reboot: COVID-Cancer Project, which aggregates two sets of clinical data. The first dataset draws from recent studies on COVID-19 in cancer patients. The second dataset draws on years of cancer research on drugs that are now being tested for COVID-19. Reboot Rx will expand the resource as more evidence becomes available.

«We urge the scientific and clinical community to share additional data to accelerate research and inform treatment decisions,» said Laura Kleiman, PhD, Founder and CEO of Reboot Rx. «Patients and their doctors need to know what impact the drugs they might take for COVID-19 will have in order to choose the best treatments to fight both life-threatening diseases.»

About Reboot Rx

Reboot Rx is a nonprofit tech startup enabling cancer patients to access new and affordable treatments faster than traditional approaches by using repurposed generic drugs, AI and machine learning, and innovative funding models. Many repurposed generic drugs being tested for COVID-19 also have documented effects on cancer, which inspired the Reboot: COVID-Cancer Project. For more information, visit rebootrx.org.

DATAMARK Selected by Maine for NG9-1-1 GIS Data Enhancement

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — DATAMARK, the public safety GIS team of Michael Baker International, announces that the Maine…

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — DATAMARK, the public safety GIS team of Michael Baker International, announces that the Maine Public Utilities Commission, Emergency Services Communication Bureau has selected the firm for Next-Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) geographic information system (GIS) data enhancement. This work will be critical as the state moves toward a statewide, comprehensive GIS address point layer and road centerline layer that meet and exceed the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSDI).  The project includes a review of existing road centerline data and existing structure location data to spatially adjust the geometries to meet national standards and to provide a mechanism for the remediation of missing/incomplete/incorrect address location data and/or attributes. The project commenced in June 2020 and is expected to last through February 2022.

«Our team consists of leaders in the complex technical areas of GIS, public safety and NG9-1-1, all of whom have extensive experience executing large-scale NG9-1-1 GIS data enhancement projects,» said  Chris Friel, Director of Strategic Accounts at DATAMARK, Michael Baker International. «Our data-forward, full-service – yet configurable – solutions will provide the highest levels of public safety GIS data completeness and accuracy for the State of Maine’s NG9-1-1 services.»

The project will improve Maine’s GIS data statewide to meet the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) recommendation for the horizontal accuracy of GIS data layers. The DATAMARK team will update the existing NG9-1-1 1 road centerline dataset to a more spatially accurate LiDAR-derived road dataset while keeping all the attributes and topological relationships of the linear features.  Positional Accuracy Improvement (PAI) rules will be configured to align the NG9-1-1 road centerline dataset to the LiDAR-generated dataset. The PAI process consists of performing the change detection, including matching, between the LiDAR generated and NG9-1-1 datasets.  The matched and reshaped features will be shifted to align to the LiDAR dataset while still maintaining topological integrity.

DATAMARK will use two proprietary software solutions throughout this project:

  • Address Comparison and Evaluation (ACE): ACE technology will compare Maine’s master address sources to other sources containing address points (i.e., trash records, parcels, utility databases, etc.) and will identify address candidates not within the master address data source.
  • Validation Edit Provision (VEP): DATAMARK’s VEP Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution improves public safety communication, location precision and ensures the data meets the stringent NG9-1-1 requirements. The data validation tools are built on the NENA NG9-1-1 GIS database schema and will help to improve Maine’s data after spatial realignment. They will improve the state’s street centerline and address point GIS data using VEP to execute iterative validation checks. The VEP validation engine allows administrators to run hundreds of specific data validations that guide data remediation efforts to improve the quality and completeness of the GIS data.

DATAMARK will work in conjunction with partners Quantum Spatial and 1Spatial throughout the project.

VERO BEACH, Fla., Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — QOL Medical, LLC today announced that PLoS ONE has published the results from a study of hypomorphic SI (sucrase-isomaltase) genetic variants known to cause Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID). The results show children with a hypomorphic SI variant had more serious gastrointestinal symptoms than those without.

The 18-center study of 308 non-Hispanic white children was designed to assess the prevalence of CSID-associated SI variants relative to the general population and the gastrointestinal symptoms associated with a known SI genotype within the study population.

Children with CSID, commonly known as Sucrose (sugar) Intolerance, have chronic diarrhea because they are unable to properly digest sucrose (table sugar), which is found in foods such as ice cream, apples, cake, and corn.

In adolescents and adults, CSID has been characterized by symptoms of chronic loose stools and diarrhea, abdominal pain, gas, and periodic nausea, which overlap with common irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms. In infants, CSID classically presents as explosive watery diarrhea, failure to thrive, diaper rash, irritability, and acidic stools.

«Results from this study reinforce the importance of testing children with chronic loose stools for CSID,» said Derick Cooper, CEO of QOL Medical, LLC. «We are hopeful these findings will translate into more awareness and testing for pediatric patients who face daily challenges with this disease.»

Tootris Launches Innovative School Aged Learning Hubs Program In Advance Of School Closures

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — TOOTRiS, the fastest growing tech-enabled service provider connecting parents to high-quality Child Care, today announced Learning Hubs, a Child Care program for school-aged children aimed at solving distance learning challenges. Working parents are concerned about juggling work responsibilities and managing their childrens’ remote school days, while their employers are worried about absenteeism and workforce productivity. In direct response, TOOTRiS is expanding its real-time 0-5 aged Child-Care services to support parents as they face the challenge to provide school aged children with academic supervision and assistance in this new distant learning era.

TOOTRiS is leveraging their network of more 4,000 licensed and credentialed Child Care providers who have remained open for business during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Learning Hubs empower providers to take on school-aged children and leverage their already nurturing programs to provide a contained, safe and structured small group environment, not to exceed 8 children per CDC guidelines.

TOOTRiS is partnering with the employer community to stand up and subsidize on-site Learning Hubs as an extension to their benefits program.  Employers recognize that now more than ever they need to support their workforce to solve their childcare challenges if they expect employees to get back to productivity levels.

«Workforce productivity starts with Work/Life balance. Our economy will not recover unless the employer community recognizes their imperative role in helping to solve this Child Care crisis,» said Alessandra Lezama, CEO of TOOTRiS. «Learning Hubs ensures that children are getting appropriate supervision and a renewed sense of normalcy to help them navigate the challenges of virtual classrooms.»

With Governor Newsom’s remote learning mandate for the start of the 2020-21 school year, Learning Hubs are a Win-Win-Win Solution for children, parents, and employers. Other cities like San Francisco recognize the importance and immense value of the Learning Hubs concept to working parents and their children.  The Department of Children, Youth and Their Families recently announced that it will similarly transform some public facilities for high need San Francisco Unified School District students, into Learning Hubs starting this fall. Maria Su, Executive Director of SFDCYF, said, «We need to make sure that families do not have to choose between working and taking care of their children.»

Telehealth Claim Lines Increase 5,680 Percent Nationally from May 2019 to May 2020

NEW YORK, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Telehealth claim lines1 increased 5,680 percent nationally from 0.15 percent of medical claim lines in May 2019 to 8.69 percent in May 2020, according to new data from FAIR Health’s

NEW YORK, Aug. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Telehealth claim lines1 increased 5,680 percent nationally from 0.15 percent of medical claim lines in May 2019 to 8.69 percent in May 2020, according to new data from FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker. Although substantial, that increase was less than the year-to-year increase the previous month, when telehealth claim lines increased 8,336 percent nationally from 0.15 percent of medical claim lines in April 2019 to 13.00 percent in April 2020.The data represent the privately insured population, excluding Medicare and Medicaid.

Against the backdrop of the year-to-year increase, telehealth claim lines fell 33 percent nationally from 13.00 percent of medical claim lines in April 2020 to 8.69 percent in May 2020.

The four US census regions (Midwest, Northeast, South and West) all showed trends similar to the nation as a whole. In each region, there were large percent increases in volume of claim lines from May 2019 to May 2020, but these increases were smaller than the increases from April 2019 to April 2020. In addition, in each region, there was a drop in volume of claim lines from April to May 2020. The biggest drop was in the South, where the decrease from April to May was 40 percent, from 9.81 percent of medical claim lines to 5.87 percent.

Higher telehealth utilization from March to May 2020 by comparison with the same months in 2019 suggests the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In March and April, many states prohibited elective procedures and non-emergency medical care when rendered in person, making telehealth an attractive alternative. Many of these prohibitions expired in May as states began to open up, perhaps accounting for the drop in the telehealth share of total medical claim lines that month relative to April. Nevertheless, the pandemic continued and telehealth usage remained high by comparison with 2019.

Other notable findings of the Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker concern the top five telehealth diagnoses:

  • Mental health conditions, already the number one telehealth diagnosis nationally and in every region in April 2020, accounted for an even larger share of telehealth claim lines in May 2020. Nationally, this diagnosis increased from 34 percent to 40 percent of telehealth claim lines from April to May 2020. In May 2020, it constituted 40 percent or more of telehealth claim lines in every region but the South, whereas in April 2020 it did so only in the Midwest.
  • In May 2020, developmental disorders ranked among the top five telehealth diagnoses in all regions and nationally, whereas in April 2020 this diagnosis was in the top five in only one region (the West). In May 2019, it was not in the top five in any region. The COVID-19 pandemic appears to be driving the movement toward more use of telehealth in this area.

Launched in May as a free service, the Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker uses FAIR Health data to track how telehealth is evolving. An interactive map of the four US census regions allows the user to view an infographic on telehealth in a specific month in each region, or in the nation as a whole. In addition to data on the volume of claim lines and on diagnoses, each infographic includes findings on urban versus rural usage and the top five telehealth procedure codes.

FAIR Health is a national, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing transparency to healthcare costs and health insurance information. FAIR Health President Robin Gelburd stated: «COVID-19 is having a pronounced impact on telehealth, but the specifics of that impact vary from month to month. FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker is showing in detail how this venue of care is evolving.»
